As you can see, the beni is Orangie. Would it improve if I feed Hikari deep red?

    Bro TK,
I noticed the sumi turned out solid la. Is it like that when you got it or you pond is good for sumi development? Most of your kois have good shiroji too. Got to improve the beni only. You must hv liked hi sanke very much :-D

Of all, I prefer the Sakai kohaku. But it's tough to win in kohaku or gosanke category in any show. You need to enhance the beni. Skin quality is good.

    Capt,
    Thanks for the compliment.
I too noticed the Shiro and Sumi developed well after my first photograph yesterday.
:-D . Thanks to Bro Lauts Bentonite clay. I believe the clay did the trick in maintaining and developing those as I'm regularly using the clay. So my pond is rich with nutrient for Sumi development.

I like the Sakai Kohaku as well, but my problem is overall Beni development in my pond.
Other parameters has been checked as follows:

    pH: Morning 8am 7.8, Night 8 pm 8.0

Temp: Morning 8am 29C, Night 8pm 30C. Am going to install the bakki shower and spray bar this Thursday to reduce temp further.

Salinity: Maintain from 0.1% to 0.3%

Water change: water drip of 15% daily

Filter cleaning: Once a week with 25% change water

Feeding: Saki Hikari color 30% + Saki Wheat germ. Would try to mix the Saki Hikari deep red into the feeding and increase to 50%. Is it enough? Please advice bro

    Hi Sifu's

As I was observing my pond last night after back from work, noticed my Hi-utsuri went missing. As it was dark, could not really find it. After 1 hour of search, finally found it in the filter chamber.
Took me another 1 hour to take it out as I do not have small net (swear)

Finally the fellow already back to the main pond. Now need to buy some netting or something to cover the SS.

P/S: Any suggestion on the Beni improvements???

    Hi Sifu's
Very sad news. Today my maid accidentally open the tap water at high level in the morning. When I'm back from office, my Yamabuki Ogon Fly to Japan redi :-(
    I tester water Ammonia @ 0, Nitrite @ 0 and Nitrate @ 1 to 3 ppm.
Check the koi but not bloated, or ulser or strange behavior in other koi. Suspect be high chlorine, so added anti cholorine. Don't want to take risk, so want to add kenkona for treatment shortly.

Should I do anything else? Pls advise

    Bro TK,
Use activated carbon before tap water enter you pond, you can easliy DIY housing. This cheap equipment and media can help you combating again chlorine.

Btw, i never recommendd using anti chlorine (sodium thiosulphate) which will neutralize chlorine but relase ammonia, you willhave slightly ammonia increase, this will converted by biological filter but your nitrate level will rise too.

    Bro Daniel,

Actually any housing can be use. I made PVC housing for personnal use, 12" pvc pipe 1meter high. Youcan use household catridge filter (remove the woven catridge) or simply put a bucket filled with granular activated carbon, and let tap water pass it.

    Bro SSmann and Sis Gerry,

I think it's part and puzzle of koi keeping. Just that this is my first lost so very depressed and could not sleep well. Worst, HM was :-((
    Would recover soon....

    Bro Harry,
Thanks for the tips. But modifying the inlet piping for the pond would be trouble some as the piping is in the filter chamber. Would it be ok if I put few Kg of activated carbon in the filter last chamber? How many Kg is advisable for 3.5 ton pond? Really appreciate your help bro.

    Thanks in advance,
    TK

No need to put near pond bro TK, any place will do.you can put a 3-4"pipe, drill small hole at end socket and connect it your incoming water. It can be submerged in ur filter chamber.how much to use is depend on how much your flow, for small amount drip, 3-4kg is enough. The rule is the longer and slower it pass the AC, the better

    Welcome bro,

Remember, that never use anti chlorine for qt without proper biological filter. Just in case of emergency, and you need fast removing of ammonia in pond water, you can try NOVAQUA, this is available @Yamakoshi. I also use when quarantine new fish, it remove chlorine and heavy metals, stabilized pH also coating fish slime, and help reducefish stress.

I been using this for more than 10 years, to qt new incoming fish, including the most difficult/delicate fish like wild altum angel.

    Thanks bro Harry,

Actually I use Tensiongon anti chlorine which has the same effect. Tensiongon also:
    Removes Chlorine & Chloramine
    Neutralizes ammonia & heavy metal
    Inhibit nitrite accumulation in fish
    Release stress by vitamin B
    Re-vitalized and repair slime coat

    Whats your opinion bro?

    Bro TK,

During QT always dechlor first in a tub etc before adding to QT tank. DO NOT add tap water direct to QT and then add dechlor. Reason being high Ammonia in QT will combine with Chlorine in tap water to form Chloramine before chlorine can be neutralise. Chloramine need almost 4 times more amount of dechlor to neutralise , releasing the trapped ammonia. This is not good. So always dechlor outside the QT NOT in tank.

    Bro HDCu,

    The reason for change:
    1) The new pick is better body confirmation and longer body; a future potential jumbo koi
    2) The old pick the sumi had finished and one sided. The new pick is more balanced, and sumi not finished yet. So, have to wait for surprises.

I can say my pick is a typical newbie pick. After shared the pics, sifu's and senior bros here guided and gave me reasons for the new pick. After careful consideration, I go with sifu's pick :-D But, after seeing the real fellow yesterday, I understand why they all picked it. I love it :X
