I have tried and tried to keep snails...My last one Corneilus died...i now have one named Petunia....let me tell you(even though you may already know) what i have learned since Cornealius..they need more than the waste on the bottom and algae...you can buy algae waffers and drop them in the bottom and sure enough they find them and attach themself to them...they aren't too expensive, and i was told to feed about half a waffer every couple of days...also they are sensitive to meds, or at least coppersafe....always read the lables...although Corneilus didn't die until about a week after i treated my tank-it may have had something to do with it-here is what my solution is if you need to medicate ...take the snail out and return it and get a new one when the meds have been siphoned out by your weekly water changes:) hope that helps-another piece of information: If you go to the website http://www.wallybillingham.com/snail/archive.htm
There will be lots of cool snail pics and under that some links and one is on snail care-

COULD be swimbladder-can you seperate him in a hospital tank? You will need to keep food from him for 2-3 days and then feed him peas to see if he will poo(note: the poo will look just like the peas and it will be hard to see the poo if there are left over uneated peas on the bottom of the tank-so you will need to watch and remove uneated peas...the reason i know this i caught my betta pooing green pea substance!) okay make sure they are thawed frozen peas and pop the peas out of the skin first..make it bites size if you can and they will most likely gobble it right up..Now i can't gareentee this is what will help your Silver dollar; but it cured my betta-and i followed another persons advice and feed this particular betta a pea about once a week to help him from getting this again-untreated they will die...good luck

The female are usually easier to spot. See if you can see any indication of orange around the stomach area. If so, then those are females. The females are smaller and the males are bigger. I don't know if you can tell the difference from them yet at that age though. I believe the females might be a little darker than the males. I hope this help.

you can't find ANYTHING at all about cichlids? i just did a search at a search engine, found alot of links on them. i wouldn't keep any cichlid in a 10 gallon tank, way too small. MAYBE a pair of convicts, but they would have so many fry you wouldn't know what to do with them, many pet shops won't take them. they breed every two weeks, from 200-600 eggs. can't have any tankmates too. females are smaller, and tend to have orange bellies.

For cichlids you could try this site, http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/shellweb/shell_species.htm
They are referred to as shell dwelling cichlids and as far as I know the only ones you could comfortably and reproductively keep in a ten.
As for other ideas, you could do a tetra, barb or danio species tank. Just make sure the adult full grown size is small enough.
Species tank for khuli loaches or cories.
Could combine two of the above mentioned.
Platies, guppies, .
Killies if you don't mind an annual fish.
Brackish, I am very partial to bumble bee gobies. Mollies, glass fish.
If you want only one fish you could keep a small puffer, but a ten would be a little tight, still do able. They can be touchy to feed.
A ten is small so resist temtation to put to many in.

Yes, and I am going to do a tank of these, only the normal color.
These are schooling fish, the color is a dye that is injected.
What few people realize and I am just now learning is they are actually a brackish water fish. This is why they get ich so easily, they will do better with at least 2 tsp of salt per gallon, marine salt is the best for this.
They are also a schooling fish.

they ich so easily because their immune systems are lower than average. the people put them in 'dye' water in order to dye them. the colors will fade, they are more prone to sickness and live shorter lives than un-dyed glass fish. don't see why anyone would support this way of profit though, i think it is cruel. put some pretty colors in some fish to raise sales and not caring a bit whether they live healthy and full lives.

They do not like any salt in their tanks and don't always adjust easily to new tanks so they need to be put in slowly. it is said 1 will take care of a 55 gallon tank, and in my experience I believe it. They stay small, around 1-2 inches and they are kinda cute.

I put in the Maracide - Bobo looks like it's not bothering him that much. I also put in some salt. I'll build up the quantity like you suggested. Hopefully he'll make it - unforntunately, I saw some red (seems like either sores or where he rubbed himself raw)near his gill area, so he really needs something to kick in for him.

Yes, I know about the ammonia, but the levels were at .25ppm and I did a water change before adding the medication to bring the ammonia down to 0. I was told that after a parasite leave the fish's skin it leaves behind raw skin where it was feeding (poor fish) and that this may be the red or rawish stuff that I see. I can't change his water now because of the med., this is the 3rd day, tomorrow I am suppose to do a 50% water change and start another 3 day treatment for a total of 4 continuous treatments with a 50% water change inbetween each 3 days. The guy said it is better to do it this way instead of what manufacturer says because it treats for a total of 12 to really kill the parasite, that the manufacturer does only 10 days because he knows that the parasite lives longer than 10 days and will eventually come back to attack the fish thus making me buy more product. This guy "seems" like he knows what he is talking about, but he has never had Bettas before only other fish. I want to know what the poor Betta will feel like after all this med. Does this sound like a sound treatment? Thank you.

None.
Rainbows and the red tailed black shark can reach 4-5 inches, and need plenty of swimming room. A ten gallon is to small for them, and only one should be kept per tank.
I am tryng to think of a good substitute that would work but am drawing a blank here.
Most loaches will get too large for a 10 gallon, but there is one I have read about.
Gets around 2 inches, The Dwarf Loach, Botia sidthimunki. If you can find them they might work.

Why are you adding the salt and why so much is the first thing I need to know.
Also, you have to be sure how much salt you are using, too much will kill even marine species.
I use salt in most of my tanks at a much lower concentration, 1/4 tsp per gallon.
2 tsp per gallon is more brackish than fresh and guppies and cories do not need that much.
If you acclimate teh danios slowly tothe slt it should be ok. Put them in a container half full of their regular water and add a few tablespoons of the salted water every 15 minutes until it is about 40% their water and 60% the salted water.
But I would suggest lowering the salt concentration.

Well, actually I've did a little of researching and readings about fishes, and which ones are good for salt (besides saltwater fishes).
There are some information that tells me to add 1 teaspoon for ever five gallon, and others have told me to add
1/2 teaspoon of salt per five gallon. So, I stucked with the 1/2 teaspoon of salt per five gallon, cause i didn't want
to take any risk in losing my guppies or other fishes. Now that I've had at least a thousand babies of convicts, danios, guppies, and platies just sitting
on my desk in tanks and big jars, I was wondering if i could move the first batch of danios into the guppy (10 gallon) tank, so that I could
put another batch into the tank.

You don't usually. They have only rarely been bred in the home aquarium.
They are a fairly large fish, and being active I am guessing from what little I have read on them they need a large tank and exacting water.
If anyone has more recent information on how it is done I hope they will share.

Hi I just purshed some anachris [plant] tonight, I rinsed it very good before putting it in the aquarium, but as soon as I put it in I found a white worm type thingy, it was living, moving around, I managed to get it out. Does anyone know what it was? Am I going to have some kind of infestation now? It was so ugly, lol. Cheryl

My tank currently has a small school of lemon tetras and a pair of pearl gouramis.
A friend of mine is moving, and I have volunteered to adopt her cory. The problem
is that, despite all my research, I cannot seem to figure out what kind it is. I wanted
to get a few more since I know that cories school. Will this loner school with other cories
even if they're not the same? Thanks in advance!!
