Subject: Discus not feeding Hi, I'm new at this.. bought 2 wild brown discus and house it in a 6ft planted tank along with 5 altum angels... it has been 3 days now, and they aint feeding at all. I bought pellet for them but everytime i drop in the food, they dun seem interested. but i observe that they r constantly search for food.. how can I make them eat those pellets? or will they eat when they r hungry?

Subject: Re: Discus not feeding I bought a Discus about three weeks ago and I'd say it was about tree days before he would even come out when I was feeding the other fish. I had been feeding flake food & now and then I gave them brine shrimp. Wow the first time I put brine shrimp in he went for it. But he'd only get a little to eat because he's so slow moving in relation to the other fish in the tank plus the fact that they don't seem to bother with looking or turning around to see the food the current has moved from right in front of his face. They mainly like brine shrimp, blood worms & beef hart. Mine seems to like frozen as well as live brine shrimp. To start them eating though I'd try live brine shrimp. Good luck!

Subject: Crazy Angels??? Hi to allI've been keeping Angels for a year now but recently, I've noticed that my 2angels (one gold and one black marble, both males) whenever i go near them or feeding time, they seems to dash and bang the fish tank, sometimes even jumping like crazy!!!! Unlike the past where they just "wag their tails eagerly".Is their "crazy/mad" behavior normal????Is it possible the works of internal parasites??? Their "poop" seems normal, not whitish stringy type.Pls advise.

Subject: Re: Crazy Angels??? You have been keeping angels for over a year, but are these two new to the tank? About the only thing I can think of either way is that your abrupt appearance at the tank is scaring them. Try walking up to the tank very slowly and make sure that they see you before standing directly at or over the tank. Another thing you may want to check if these are the only two angels that you have is that your water perimeters are okay. They could be stressed from that, and you are just adding to it by all at once showing up. If they are not doing it at any other time, I don't feel there is any disease going on here. Kick

Subject: WARNING!!!! to all those in Washington For all those in the Bremerton Silverdale area of Washingtons state, Do NOT buy fish from the Petco in Bremerton. They are in the middle of a Ick crissis. All their tanks have Ick and they are selling fish this way. Thanks to Petco I now have half of my tanks Ick infested. If you do get fish from them they will replace any that die. They just replaced all my fish that have died from the Ick. Just to let you all know keep your reciepts and fish corpses. Happy fish keeping from now on. Rose

Subject: Re: WARNING!!!! to all those in Washington Oh Jeez, Rose, no wonder you have been having all these problems. Do not buy any more fish from anywhere for a while. Could also be that other shipments in your area came from the same wholesaler and this is where the ick originated. And ask Petco for a refund at this time. You don't want to be restocking the dead ones with more fish that are carrying the parasite. Kick

Subject: no refunds only exchanges I would love to get a refund but they won't give refunds only exchanges. Sucks for me huh. That's ok for now. I'll have my 15 to use as a quarenteen tank soon. At that time I hope the fish are much better. Lets just say that I have learned a valuable lesson through all this. I will now treat my fish for Ick when they are in the quarinteen tank as soon as I get them home. With Aquari-sol and heat. Hopefully that will take care of that problem. You win some and you loose some. You just have to keep going. I figure as long as you have learned something from the experience you win all around even if you lost some fish. Next time you'll know better, and knowing is half the battle. Rose

Subject: Re: Help Ramon Thank you for your respond. Ramon is still with us but still on the bottom of the bowl. I did change is water and treated for fungus and changing even more regularly. The blotches are only on his mid section (his color is blue and the blotches look black without any gold color on it). He still eats.If you have any new update I will appreciate.

Subject: Re: Help Ramon Hello! Glad to hear that Ramon is still with us!Do his black spots seem to be healing or disappearing? How do you "condition" his water? What is the temperature of his water? What fungus medication are you using?Fungus is usually a secondary result of some other underlying infection, that being a bacterial or parasitic infection.I look forward to your reply,Barb

Subject: Re: Help!!!! Have you tried taking your fish out and cleaning your tank. Even though there is a filter system on the tank some of what ever it is is kill your fish is still there. Don't give up. It is not the easest thing to get a tank going.
From: Kick 9/15/00
Subject: Re: Help!!!! What are you doing to treat the ick? Could be that it keeps getting reinfested because you are not getting completely rid of it. I will try to help you, but let me know about your tank, what size is it, what fish are in it and what kind of filter you have. Also I need to know the water perimeters...pH, ammonia and nitrite readings. Give me a reply and we will see what we can do. Breaking the tank down is not a good idea yet. Let's see if we can't get it straightened out first. Kick
