Nymphoides aquatica - The Banana Plant

By Clint Norwood

Scientific Name: Nymphoides aquatica

Range: East Coast of the USA

Adult Size: 30cm (12in.)

Ease Of Keeping: Medium to Difficult

Lighting: Bright

Temperature: 68-77F (20-25C)

Aquarium Requirements:
Likes shallow water and a lot of light. It's not a heavy feeder so plain gravel is fine as a substrate. You do not have to really "plant" Bananas, just place them on the gravel and they will root themselves.

Additional Notes:
Gets it's common name from the Banana shaped turbercles. This plant can be badly damaged by snails.
