Ocean Floor - Phoenix

Location: Phoenix, Arizona USA

Reviewed By: sandra

Overall: Good

Times Visited: More Than Ten Visits
Freshwater Selection: Very Good
Saltwater Selection: Very Good
Stock Selection: Excellent
Staff: Fair
Prices: Poor

Comments: One of the bigest aquatic stores in Phoenix, offers wide selection of live stock, and various aquarium supplies. Prices on a live stock are reasonable, while the dry goods and supplies tend to be much more expenssive than other stores. Some of the products don't have prices listed, and staff tends to make up their own prices, based on free will, which will eventually divert a potential buyer to go and visit Petsmart or Petco.

I am glad to know I am not the only one who noticed the staff sucked. I walked around the store forever before I even got someone to pay more than a seconds worth of attention to me. Then it was only long enough to point me in the right dirrection and walk away before confirming I was getting it right. I did leave and go to Petco. I have told all my friends and then some about the poor customer service I have gotten the few times I have visited Ocean Floor. I even called & complained to the manager once.

Comments: I had hoped that there woudl be more "big box" aquarium specialty stores in phoenix. I found the selcetion in the ocean floor excellent and one member of the live fish area very knowledgeable about the fish and the support products. Unfortunately , I found the overall level of customer service for a specialty store poor. The prices for the equipment found on the sales floor (although impressive) is over-priced . An aquariom store is supposed to have lower prices than a non fish store.

Comment : Generally, I agree with Sandra -- though I've had better luck with the staff than her. I've never had a problem finding anyone. I have, however, found that I've been mislead/misinformed regarding fish I've bought. I was told that a fish i wanted to buy was non-agressive and when I got it home it harrassed all my other fish only to find after doing research online that the fish is indeed aggressive/territorial. Was misinformed about some frogs I bought, too. These things i can live with. What I don't like is the fact that they carry artificially dyed fish. I've seen fish there with "I 'heart' you" tattooed on their sides and with 'lipstick' tattooed on their mouths. This, I've got a problem with. Looking for another store....
