bad constipation
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:55:26 AM »
Is there any other way to cure constipation other then peas and an epsom salt dip? My little guy is horribly constipated to the point where while he was doing his dip I held the vase up to the light and I could almost see through his stomach I'm stunned he hasnt burst yet! I did the dip for around 10 minutes and only took him out early because he looked like he wasnt doing to well in there and did the peas twice with a week inbetween with nothing to eat between them I'm nervous to do the peas a third time with how bad he is balloned out. I've never had a betta this far gone usually the peas work.

Maybe it's something other than constipation?  It could be the start of dropsy, some sort of infection or even parasites.

The only signs of anything is the bloated tummy. He's kinda getting lathargic too. What is Daphnia by the way?

Daphnia,  are small planktonic crustaceans .2 to 5 milimeters in length. They are part of the order Cladocera, one of the several small crustaceans known as "water fleas".

You were right Wendy it's the start of dropsy. Looked in on him today and he's all pinconed out. I would usually attempt a cure but I dont have the time with the baby any more so I will just give him a pellet a day so he doesnt think he's dieing of hunger and let him go on his own.

He could hang on for a long time - I've had them last for months and finally put them down because they looked so miserable.
