Heeyy all! I'm back! Been keeping up my fishy habbit. Just not frequent on here :P ANYHOOS!

Personal News (long story short):
(As you knew) dumped the bf of 3 years, dated a guy who evidently didn't send the memo it was an open relationship after a year, kept low for a few months and now found a Rough Stock Bull Fighter (rodeo guy) and I'm ENGAGED! (Pics later ;) )

For our anniversary he bought me a 55 gallon tank with 2 breeder electric blue Cichlids, along with a Convict Cichlid (named DUI *pronounced Dewey*), a itty bitty Green Terror (named Tweaker), 2 Oscars (one Nigel - black and orange, the other Cracker - albino) and 2 plecos, one Rubber Nosed and one Sail Fin (named CIA and FBI)

Not everyones going in the same tank. The Oscars are getting Mikey's 50 gal. And the cichlids are all going in the 55. Plenty of room and hiding places for all :)

Anyways, had an issue come up. We initially bought the tank from Craigslist, whom the previous owners kept turtles in it and they *told* us they used vinegar to clean the calcium rings off BUT I have a casualty. The male electric blue passed away on me, and come to find out we called the tanks previous owners to verify they only used vinegar to clean it. Nope. They used AMMONIA.

I can't help but feel guilty, but I wiped out the entire tank with only hot water and a clean wash rag and the water was conditioned before everyone got acclimated, I just didn't use vinegar to cover all my bases :(

Thoughts? Ideas? Butt chewing?? Lol MISSED YOU GUYS!

Congrats!!

If you rinsed it well and used water conditioner, that should have taken care of it. Who cleans a tank with ammonia???? Weird.

AMMONIA? GRRRR! IMMA CHEW A HOLE THROUGH THE PREVIOUS OWNER'S POSTERIER!!! Good luck, what Puff said about the cleaning, etc.  Sorry 'bout the cichlid. Sometimes, people aren't....smart, responsible, right in the head... :joy: :staightjacket: :staightjacket:

Decided to just drop everyone into Mikey's 50 gal. In the process found out the hard way I busted the tip of the water heater, exposing the coils. So after putting it in, and dinking around with the nob wondering why the light wasn't on, got a good tickle when I put my hand in the water :P

Lost the rubber nose pleco ... dang it. He was my favorite of the two. So that about confirms poisoning I think. Sail Fins pluggin away tho ... plucky little guy.

I almost wonder if I should just soak the bottom in vinegar water for a couple hours to make sure no residue is in/under the caulk seals. Then soak it in hot fresh water for another hour afterwards ...

I'm just glad everyones getting along together. The Oscars pal around and Wifey (the female electric cichlid) and Mikey seem to appriciate each others company. No nipping or chasing .... except DUI has claimed the ruins deco and poor Tweaker wants in so bad she does rounds and he'll give her the evil eye. But once he leaves she's in there. Love everyones personalities :)

gotta get to a computer first to upload ... lol

Between work, his rodeo schedule, running around and getting everything done it might be a few days. This weekend we're beebopping down to Manhatten KS, 5 hours down, 5 back on Saturday. Then cruising north to the hole in a wall town Pender NE for a practice bull pen. I gets to sort bulls in the wind and rain again haha


That and I'm a tad lazy ... or is it procrastination? I don't know between the two anymore ;)

It's funny I grew up in a rodeo town. Moved to Omaha and tried the city life, and the two city boys I dated turned out to be a--holes, really didn't like the life I was living. Then I find a cowboy and lo-an-behold I'm happy and comfortable with this life.

I almost forgot how much I love the smell of hay and manure lol
