I've had Bubba, my tiger oscar, for about 14 months now. I don't know how old he was when I got him, but I'm guessing the little guys end up at the pet store at about a month old, so that'd make him about 15 months.
In that time, he's grown a lot from the lil 2'ish inche baby to his current size. I can't really get an accurate measurement of his length since any time I approach his tank he turns to face me and does his little "Gimme food!" dance. I'm guessing he's around 7 or 8 inches long. I'm just curious as to whether Bubba is on the small side or if that's a normal size for an oscar that's just over a year old. I've read that oscars grow pretty much their whole life. I assume that since they can start spawning at a year that by then they've gotten the majority of their growing done and would only increase in size a tiny bit each year.
He seems to be healthy and happy (except at cleaning time. He doesn't trust that scary ol python sucking the water from his home), so I'm not worried if he is on the small end of the spectrum. I'm just kind of curious.
