I'm PROUD of my Heritage.
« on: April 04, 2012, 02:33:42 PM »
When people ask me my nationality (and they tend to ask a lot) I give them one of two answers depending on the situation/my mood. The short answer:Mexican. The long answer is that I' 3/4 Mexican, my grandfather was from Guatemala, my grandmother had a French Grandfather who was totally blonde, with a big long beard. I have seen the picture. Its massive. My grandfather had a Spanish Father or Grandfather. I'm going to have to ask my mom to clariify that for me. And like a lot of Mexicans, there is a lot of European (mostly Spanish) blood in my veins. So, yeah... I'm "Mexican"

So I was wondering about you guys. What are your origins, as far as you know?

Why do people ask you your nationality? Hispanic covers almost everything except French. I'm half Italian (Sicily) with a little Swedish and Dutch from my Dad. No one asks me, but If they did, I'd just say mostly Italian.

So Welsh is different from English? I have always wondered. Or is it like Sicilian and Italian, because Mexicans also identify with different regions, states, etc.

And LittlePuff, some people wonder my nationality, because they say i dont "look" Mexica. I think they mean to say I don't "act" Mexican, plus, I have light skin, my eyes change color and I sometimes get confused for white. It mostly happens when they hear me speak spanish and they didn't expect it.

I'm Pennsylvania Dutch, so lots of German in my blood.  However, my moms side of the family looks middle eastern, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

Lol. I call myself a mutt all the time. And in Mexico theres a thing about being a hundred percent from one state. my friend used to try to tease me about his family being a hundren percent from Sinaloa, so I just started saying his parents were cousins, and never heard about that.

"If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much!"    (Or so my family likes to say  :P )  Lucky for me, I am indeed Dutch!   I'm also some German, and probably another tiny bit of everything, but I mostly identify with my Dutch heritage - I bake Dutch treats like banket, tulips are my favorite flowers, I own klompen (the wooden shoes), and I even speak a little Dutch!   ;D
Life doesn't always come with a set of instructions. In fact, most of the time it just comes. Every morning, like clockwork. It's there when you open your eyes, and it's still there even if you don't.

lol. thats kind of how my family is about being mexican. I have a Mexican flag in my room, and if I ever found a Guatemalan flag that was the same size, I wold hang it up, and I'm sure I'd get some sideways looks from my brothers and sisters. Although we are all a quarter Guati. I want to go to Amsterdam one day. It looks like a good rime.

I'm not Polish or Russian, but pretty much every other "white" blood and some Nez Perce several generations back. Just enough so that I tan pretty dark, and got mistaken for a Cuban a lot when I lived in the Keys.
