Quarantining plants?
« on: March 15, 2012, 07:44:41 PM »
Hello!

I haven't been around this place in years - looks like things haven't changed much. :)

Anyway, I just purchased some plants tonight as I want to try re-planting my 10 gallon tank. I have a few quite delicate looking plants (mostly ambulias), and after reading over the sticky for disinfecting them, I know I don't want to attempt the bleach method. I have used the alum method before with great results, but I no longer have any alum, nor do I know where to find it.

My question is - can I use a high concentration of aquarium salt to do the same thing? The plants were taken from a tank that was crawling with snails - so I want to make sure I kill them off before putting the new plants in my tank.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! <3

*edit* I went out to my local drugstore and supermarket today and could not find alum at either. So... I'm still stuck here. What about epsom salts?
