What should I do?
« on: December 08, 2011, 06:19:24 PM »
I have ten guppies in a 20Gl. long tank.
Me and my brother want angel fish.
Would it be okay if...
We got rid of some guppies and then put the rest in a smaller tank (Around 5Gl.)?
And took the decorations out of the 20Gl. to make more room?
And got 1 to 2 angels?
I really want to so please tell me!

Sounds good! Is the tank already cycled?

20 gallons is too small for angels, they get about 6 inches long and close to twice that tall. I haven't had any luck with them in anything smaller than a 55 actually. I got one pretty big in a 29 once, but probably a month after he quit growing he died. I had a trio in a 55 for several years.

One to two is too much for a 20? I've never had them, but that seems a bit off.

I have a friend that had 2 Angels in a 20 high and as they got older she wanted to get a larger tank because of how crowded they seemed. I personally wouldn't put Angels in less than a 40 unless I was growing some out, but I think you could get away with it.

I think it's too small as well - they get very large (and tall!).

Two angelfish in a 20 gallon might be too restrictive. If you decided to have only one in it, the fish might get too lonely. Why not get a new bigger tank and leave the guppies in their current home?
