Ideas for CuffLink the red eared slider...
« on: October 07, 2011, 05:00:10 PM »
Well, he was on the road and a coal truck was about to smush him so mother and I did this 007 move and snatched him.
His shell was slightly cracked already and he had some puncture marks (coon? Dog?) He was about the size of a quarter (maybe bigger)
This was this spring, needless to say, I felt I needed to make sure he was ok (and the one two feet from him that was apparently a female since it grew 10x faster then he ever did)
The female we released a few days later in a pond since she was fine, but CuffLink was kept.
I fed him live mill worms, crickets and turtle food and to start with he was in a 10 gallon tub. After he came to and started to REALLY eat we purchased a 29 gallon and set him up a heat lamp basking area inside the tank and a largeish swimming place.
He is the only turtle and probably get's fed a little toooo much.. His tank mate is a 4 year old gold fish named Frank but Frank now is full of eggs so, Freda? lmao but anyway. They love each other (Ok, so the turtle is terrified of the fish and needs to be alone)
He went from being the size of a quarter to 3.5 in across and 4in long.
His tank setup isnt correct for him anymore (Tall 29 and not long) So, today at a yardsale I seen something glorious.

Stand. TWO large filters, all decor and gravel and blah blah blah lighting and pumps and tubing and the entire outfit (and that stand needs some bracing and what not but its awesome. Imma use some polish and spiffy it up)
55 gallon tank and all (the box on top of stuff too) foooorrrr
$75.00 USD
Yes. I jumped and freaked out and ohhhed and awwwed and they said nothing was wrong they just didnt want it.
Were going to pput some water in it tomorrow and make sure it's not leaking but if it is, surly we can fix that with something?
75 dollars for that (OLDER lady, like 80's said I love it, but when my husband died I couldnt do the upkeep on something that big so my daughter got me a 20 gallon set up for my favorite two gold fish and that's all I really wanted)
Apparently she had a bunch of goldies in there and gave the rest to her neice and she just didnt want it anymore and needed to sell it. This was apparently the 4th day of having this massive yard sale way out in the sticks and she had it priced to start at 125 and dropped it down to 75 that morning. When I seen it, I called my husband and told him about it and he agreed the turtle needed a larger tank ASAP.

so, I guess my question is (I know a freaking book :o sorry)

Help?!
Decor?
anything different about setting up something THIS massive?
Have you ever had issues with a tank this big?
If it DOES leak, what can we use to fix that?

throw any ideas, info, whatever you feel like it at me. PLease :D

 Hiya a lil' late, but remember: your turtle will eat what fits in his mouth. Driftwood would be great, a few plants live or fake. I wouldn't get snails, but small fish can live peacefully. If CuffLink is slow get little fish that dart here and there at good speed. I know a bit about reptiles, but I never studied turtles. I see them as shelled fish for some reason... anyway if you want live plants here's a site with good info on plants& fish- www.liveaquaria.com Maybe a 3D backround or a simple background. Hope I helped any. I'll be back with fish that might do good. GOOD LUCK! :luck: :flame: srry don't know about leaks.

Maybe glofish(cross-gene zebra danios), cory cats, but check and see if they're compatable(don't judge me I can spell most of the time)with CuffLink(unique name by the way, I really like it!). Oh, before I forget check neon tetras, they're really neat shoaling fish.
