Easiest way is stick one end into the tank & gently suck on the other end to get the flow going. Suck in to hard & you get a mouth full of tank water.

Yum!

I generally used to put 2 or even 3 knots in the air line.  For me that made it easier to control the flow.  Then I got lazy and just stuck two lengths of hose on an air line valve and used it to regulate the flow.

Never did a drip acclimation on anything freshwater. Float bag, pour out most of the water. Add small amounts of yours repeatedly for about 20min. Then release. Never had a death.

Try a mouthful of BGA. That stuff is unbelievably vile. Good thing the bucket was empty.

Now I just feed the hose into the water until it's full and cap it with a thumb or finger. Hold the other end in the water and pull the capped end to the bucket and then release the cap. No possibility of a mouthful.

I use a turkey baster to add a bit of tank water to the bag as it's floating.  I do this every 10 minutes or so for about an hour and then if everything looks OK i release them.

That is mostly for saltwater, but now they're recommending skipping the drip method and placing them in the tank no more than 30min after you open the bag. So far, the freshwater way is working fine for them too.

Only do drip for changes in salinity. Like a brackish puffer kept in freshwater.

I was told to do it for freshwater because of changes in Ph.
