Discus variants
« on: December 31, 2010, 05:31:51 PM »
So I'm working on stocking my Discus tank. I currently have 4 discus, two red melon, one yellow diamond, and one snakeskin. Was wondering what some of ya'll's favorite Discus variants were so that I could figure out what others I'd like to stock my tank with.

I've really had my eye on getting a couple of the greenish wild variants, thoughts?

I have always wanted to keep discus. (btw what is the plural of that? Discuses sound stupid) anyway I have always loved the snakeskin varients. Truth be told, you can't go wrong with most of them.

Ever notice in the Bible, whenever God needed to punish someone, make an example or needed a killing, he sent an angel? Ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? An existence spent praising your God, but always with 1 wing dipped in blood. Would you really want to see an angel?

Oh yes! They really seem to enjoy the blood worms and beef heart I've been feeding them. I've been told it's great for developing their colors.

My LFS had snakeskin, red melon, yellow diamond, and cobalt variants with the snakeskin and reds being $70 a piece and the cobalts and yellows at $50, or 3 for $120. They told me if I'd like to get any other variant to just ask them and they'd special order them.

Great LFS to special order for you if needed. Are the snakeskins rarer? wondering about the pricing difference. Or maybe more popular?

I'm not sure. They may be a bit more rare. My snakeskin is one of my favorites though and I'll probably get another one eventually.

Ooooo the red/turquoise variant is also very striking.

So at the moment I'm eying this "Yellow Dragon" Variant. Also really interested in the pigeon blood variants.
