Brackish. Don't get them from Walmart, they need to be discouraged from getting them to sell. They try to pass them off as freshwater. Have you had any experience with puffers?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply....No this will be my first time getting some.I just got a 30 gallon tank,i have not yet set it up yet,and let it stand for a few weeks.Ive allways wanted to get some puffers ever since i seen them down at walmart.I thought they might be salt water fish!,so do you have to buy the marine salt they sell?.I wanted to use the play sand for the bottom too.I got a question also,i perfer to use fake plants rather the real ones,i allways seem to have bad luck with them and it seems like they make the water cloudy too.And also where can i buy the little snails that puffers like to eat?,id like to raise some my self. You have any other info that i may need?,thanks for your help!.

I wouldn't recommend a puffer for a beginner. They have a lot of specific care requirements and a lot of extra work. I'd start with freshwater and wait until you have experience with cycling and maintenance. I don't mean to discourage you, I know how cute and amazing they are. Are there any other fish you are interested in keeping?
