Looking for a small fish suggestion....
« on: September 06, 2010, 07:46:02 AM »
I've got a 10g tank, currently bare bottom with a ton of plants, mosses, java fern, etc, filtered.  Currently only has pygmy cories in it.  I had scarlet badis too but they didn't survive the move to my new house (temps were in the upper 90's the day of moving, I lost a bunch of fish).  I'm looking for something else to go in with the cories.  I'd love to do the badis again but they were so hard to get (both male and female) in the first place, that i'm looking for other suggestions to think about first.  I'd prefer something quite small, so its less likely to eat the pygmy cory eggs/babies, preferably something where I might be able to get both male and female so it could potentially breed, and something that will do ok at the slightly cooler temps and slightly softer waters that the cories prefer.

I would suggest a small school of Hengel's rasbora (Rasbora hengeli). They would occupy the mid-waters without coming down to the floor for the cory eggs and are a hardy, peaceful and handsome specie.
If I had to live my life again, what would I avoid?

thats an idea, though the cory eggs are spread all over the tank on all levels, but they are cool looking fish!

Check FranksAquarium.com he is a sponsor of PetFish.Net and he carries a good selection of smaller fish, they are under the label nano-fish on his site.

I've ended up moving the pygmy cories into a 20g long, so technically its not a tiny tank any more, but the restriction on fish size still stands, thanks for the suggestions guys, I need to narrow down what I want and do some ordering!

With no cories, I would have to say dwarf puffers!
90gal Upgrade from the 55gal.
55gal 5"porcupine puffer, 2 clownfish, 1 molly, and chocolate chip starfish, one Orange Diamond Goby

lol!  the 10g is staying empty till I can bleach it, though I suppose that puffers wouldn't mind the pond snails!
