Hi Gene! Welcome to Petfish
You say you are now the foster owner of a tank, but did it come with inmates or any hardware to you? How were you dealing with it these last five years? Do you now want to set it up afresh? Just let us know all that you got fostered on you so that we can help you better in acting as guides to set it up. Never be shy in asking question or telling us your troubles, as all of us were new to this hobby once.
Well, actually, that stuff is all long gone, apart from some tools. The tank developed a leak and my boss told me to spend the money to buy a new one rather than to reseal it. Fine by me.
What I have now is a 40 gallon tank with a couple dozen smaller fish. Mostly different tetras, a few danios and half a dozen assorted gouramis and an angle fish.
Honestly though, I am looking to pass responsibility for that tank off to one of my co-workers as he has decided that he should be able to do whatever he wants to it whenever he want to do something. His latest crime was to notice a male sword tail and declare that half the tail had been ripped off. In response, he stripped the tank of all the decorations, apart from one rock. Now he he is trying to tell my supervisor that it is unacceptable to have a filter that is rated for less than 300 gallons and he has to have a stack of orange buckets. He also is telling people that it is never necessary to do a water change until there is an obvious problem.
Hey, if that is how he wants to play it, then it can be his tank from now on and he needs to accept responsibility for whatever comes from that.
What really brings me here is that I have decided that I want to take what I have learned, ask a bunch of questions to fill in what I don't know and eventually set up a tank at home (where the jerk co-worker cannot vandalize my efforts on a whim).
