I lost my male discus and the female seems content but I just am not sure it is good for her. The pair came to me filled with worms and the male did not survive the meds. When I first got them they breed once and ate the eggs. Then their illness really started to show. I only had them to watch their mating antics. I am not into the breeding hassles. I also have a male GBR that does not have a mate. I spent lots of money on what I thought were GBR females and never found one in my very large area. I asked around for any culls that are male and most people said that it would ruin their reputation to let me raise a cull.
Like everyone else times are hard. I have to visit the food banks around here to keep afloat after large medical bills, and we won't talk about energy bills! So replacing the male discus is not in the cards. I thought I adjusted myself to not adding anything in my tank for a long while. I am happy the tank and plants are doing so well. Like most of us I got addicted to the hobby. In my case I do not want to give up my tank. It brings us peace. I just hope the two fish that need mates will do ok in the long run.

IDK. I've never kept discus. Solo oscars do okay, and they're cichlids, but that's as much experience as I can offer, unfortunately. I'm a master of keeping fish on the cheap though. Never have had a whole lot of money.

Aip and I are in the same predicament, we just lost 2 of our discus and have one left. I would suggest some dither fish for the time being until you can get more if thats what you want.
