Inherited my sissy's birthday present.
« on: January 07, 2010, 06:56:23 PM »
Well, after all the guppies my sister was "keeping" died from apparent inbred diseases, she never bothered to get back into it. She told me today that even if they had lived the maintenance was too much for her... so I have an empty 6 gallon eclipse tank on hand with some pretty sand substrate. Any suggestions? I was thinking 5-6 goldfish or something... Just checking to see if you were paying attention.  :hihi: Seriously, though, I'm kinda stumped. Guppies are out of the question after this experience with them... I understand that my options here are extremely limited. No bettas either; I already have one and he's awesome! Thanks for all the suggestions!  ;D

Several people have suggested male endlers for this situation in the past.... don't have to worry about breeding!  Apparently you can put several in a small tank like that?

ROFL about the goldfish :P  Funny!

Endlers would be awesome - such colorful active little guys.

Dwarf gouramis?  A pair maybe?

I've always read that it's best to have dwarfs in tanks a little larger, like a 10 gal, to keep 'em happy. I can't find any endlers around here... There is a petsmart about an hour away with some dwarfs so who knows. I'll do some research. Anything else that would work?

Aphyosemion Australe killifish would be perfect. Keep them in a pair and plant the tank to provide hiding areas for the female and when they get older add spawning mops. They will lay eggs and you can move them to a hatching tank or you can just plant the tank and just keep them purely to just have them.
