« on: December 22, 2009, 07:51:16 PM »
ok i have 2 betta in seperate bowls. I got them for my roommate birthday bbut i am the one who has to care for it. I have them in seperate fish bowls-no filter- about 1 to 2 gallon at most. They been in them for 4 months and seem to be doing fine. But one question: On a sight i visited it says to add aquarium salt to their bowls> what up ith that?
Shhould i do that? Im confused i use to have a tropical tank years ago that was community tank and i had a betta in it and it did fine.
How long do betta live?

You don't really need it.  Some people use it and some don't.

Without getting into a whole discussion on the pro's & cons of salt in a tank, I'll just say in your particular case - bettas in 2g bowls - that it is not needed as Wendy mentioned.

Ever notice in the Bible, whenever God needed to punish someone, make an example or needed a killing, he sent an angel? Ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? An existence spent praising your God, but always with 1 wing dipped in blood. Would you really want to see an angel?

Average lifespan for a betta would be around 2-3 years, depending on how old it was when you bought it. Most petstore bettas are around 6 months old from what I've heard. There have been, however, plenty of bettas that lived much longer than that. Just my 2 cents.
