A rapid pH change will do more harm than a slightly too high pH. I'd be more worried about the ammonia and NitrIte levels. Try about a 30% change and test again. Those readings indicate that the cycle has begun, but is not complete yet.

I'm with Cholly......  many places have high pH (mine runs around 8.2 because of the limestone we have), and fish do adjust to that.  It is much harder to keep adjusting the pH in a tank.  Just be sure you select fish that will tolerate the higher pH.

Sometimes adding a couple of pieces of driftwood to the tank helps buffer the pH naturally.

My ph is high, always nearly off the chart.  I haven't had any problems with fish adjusting.

^Probably because your LFS has the same pH. Most fish can adjust. There are some species that don't do well with a pH too high/low, but you'll usually find that the LFS's don't stock fish that don't do well in your pH because they have the same water, and they can't keep them alive.
