redoing tank, need suggestions on amount of rockwork for tank.
« on: December 10, 2009, 09:32:08 AM »
I have a 46 gal bowfront tank which needs to be broke down and resealed.  I am waiting till after christmas to do this.  I am looking into new rock work....I would like to purchase these.  Would one large pack be enough or two better?  I would like the rocks to reach the surface of the aquarium....Any thoughts? Has anyone else purchased these?

If I were you I would look around your area. Go to a gravel pit or a landscaping place and purchase the stones there - it will save you a lot of money. A couple of notes: Avoid rocks with metals in them and avoid limestones (unless you want them for Rift Lake cichlids). I usually sterilize with a weak bleach solution but most just rinse them.

I know it'll save money...I have some now I've collected...I just wanted to splurge and like the look of these and the fact they are light weight...My tanks are second hand including gravel lighting and filters...This would be a christmas gift for me.  The tank is rather tall and those rocks are heavy trying to arrange...thought i'd treat myself.  I will however buy some larger base rocks to pile these up on.

Those are neat, I wonder if I'd be able to get some up here to add to my tank.  I'd get 2 packs if I were you, I think you'll be happier with the result and it gives you more options.

Merry Christmas to you :)

We are going in on a gift certificate for a hobby shop that sells a plane he wants. If we gave him the 400 he would never use it to buy something for himself...His son and daugther are each putting in on it...So it's not to much a hardship.  Can't back out now , his daughter told him "my part of your gift is 150.00.  I could kill her!
