Angelfish eggs
« on: December 22, 2009, 05:56:37 AM »
Ok now i'm a little confused, hope i come off sounding stupid.  2 nights ago my platinum angel was laying eggs, normal she does this about every 2 weeks or so.  Lastnight my blue angel was laying eggs, when I first got her a few weeks ago, she laid eggs with my platinum.  I thought aww how cute.  Well lastnight my platinum was gathering air bubbles from the top and aerating the eggs as the Blue laid them, again I think aww how cute.  When they do this there is a little mild aggression to the other fish but not to eachother.  After they are done, all the eggs get eaten and it's over for a couple weeks.  Well this morning I wake up and there are still eggs left.  About 20 clear ones, like they always are and there is also about 10 milky white ones.  My platinum is still aerating away with them and the blue wants nothing to do with the eggs or food but she is staying close.  There is no male to fertilize them but why would those 10 be milky white.  I know some fish can hold sperm to fertilize later but I never heard this about angelfish, also that some fish can change sex to spawn, again never heard this about angelfish, so this now leaves me confused yet again......

I can't seem to remember if white milky eggs represent fungus-infested or fertile eggs. I only know that you have to remove eggs with fungus to prevent them from spreading to other eggs. Add some mythelene blue as well.

I'm pretty sure the milky ones have fungus. As far as I know, the sex changing is strictly a live bearer thing. Although rare, same sex pairings do occur, I'm guessing that's what has happened here.

Are you planning to breed them? If so you should get a male, they look weird aerating eggs that wont hatch at all!

no i'm not planning on breeding.  I don't have the space or time to set up another tank unfortunetly, although I'd love too and have a beautiful grown male in my tank at work.  I was going to bring him home and see until I got my blue.  then I was told that when they pair and spawn there is a possibility that they will kill the odd angel out along with everyone else in the tank.  I'm worried now though, my blue angel isn't eating, not even looking at it.  Yesterday she didn't either I figured she was worn out from egg laying or stuffed from egg eating.  she's still very bloated with eggs it looks.  she's kinda hanging in one spot and not swimming much, her coloring isn't great either.
