Mollie Question
« on: January 27, 2010, 05:04:37 PM »
I have gold dust mollies and they had their babies which are larger now, I have since taken the males out and the babies are the only ones in the tank with the mothers. However the mothers are now pregnant again!!! They are all swollen... now is it possible they are pregnant again or I'm crazy, do they swell up and then the males are to fertilize them??? I cant really tell the sex of the babies yet they are large but the (fins) I cant really make out yet!!! to be positive!

HELP....
Thanks

If your mollies are pregnant again, you might want to move the babies of the first batch to another tank or else they might eat the babies from the 2nd batch.
50g angelfish & tetra
20g Amazon biotope(cory)

I had no clue they hold the sperm... How old do they start to mate? I started to look more closely this morning at them and I can tell I have a few males and several females in there. I have these In a 5 gallon and I am moving them in to my 29 gallon tank.In the 29 gallon tank I have some dalmation Mollies and a Gold molly, as well as a few tiger barbs and neon tetras....and mystery snails.
thanks all!!!

The tiger barbs may go after the fry, i'm not sure how big your fry are.  You can float a bunch of plants (plastic or real) in the top of the tank for the fry to have a place to hid.  It doesn't take long for them to start to spawn.  good luck.
