platy stuck to filter
« on: December 22, 2009, 07:43:52 AM »
so, one of my  newer very pregnant looking platies got stuck to the filter overnight, when I found her I pulled her off and she was alive and apparently not very damaged, however she doesn't appear to be as pregnant.  there is still a very dark spot in her abdomen, but she is much smaller, and some of her fins were damaged, however she is swimming around and acting normally...anyone else have this issue? Did she most likely loose them?  How do you know when your platies are close?  I have some fat ones, but I've never seen birth or babies...It's a community tank and although I know some will get eaten, I have nine platies, some should survive right>?  If I want to know when to look for offspring, can someone tell me what to look for in terms of when it's near

Those baby platies are so small, they hide easily in the gravel for a while.....

Eventually you will see them darting around the plants and rocks!

Good luck with the female... hope she does ok!

I hope you turnrd off the filter & let her swim off own her own instead of physically pulling her off. Has that happened before?
Not counting dead fish, a fish usually gets stick on a filter if the filter is too strong or if the fish is sick or in a weakened state. In any case dp keep an eye out on her as sometimes injuries don't show up till later regardless if the fish is acting normal. Good luck!

Ever notice in the Bible, whenever God needed to punish someone, make an example or needed a killing, he sent an angel? Ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? An existence spent praising your God, but always with 1 wing dipped in blood. Would you really want to see an angel?

Shieldwolf, Actually I assumed she was a gonner, so I pulled her off:(
She looked a little deformed, curved spine, however she is looking much better day by day, a little tropper, gonna name her.
It has happened in the past, two of my gouramis, which i didn't replace....I figured they were old and weak...I wouldn't think a 30-60 would be too strong for a 55....hmmm, idk....

That is rather strange. And yes you're correct that a filter correctly rated for that tank size shouldn't be sucking up your fish. I guess if it's not a constant thing I wouldn't really worry about it then.
