Parrot fish
« on: May 24, 2009, 11:44:36 AM »
I work at Walmart in pets.  People keep asking me what they can put with a Parrot fish but I don't really know.  What can you put in with a Parrot fish?  What size tank do they need?  Bigger than a 30 gallon right?

I want to make sure I'm giving people the right info.

There isn't really much you can put with cichlids like parrot fish, in my opinion. They can get aggressive and injure another fish. However people usually take care of these problems by putting equally aggressive fish in with them like other parrot fish or convicts. Some medium size schooling fish like tiger barbs might do OK with them.

in my experience, they can be rowdy but right now i have mine in 30 gal planted with some serpae tetras, and some ottos. they love to eat small fish if they can catch them that is. but if u have enough cover the fish can hide. i would not advise a tank less than 55 gal, which mine will eventually go to once i get it going, just a bigger territory for them to hang out in. also caves are very good for them.

Parrot fish? Like the colorful parrot cichlids? They are pretty harmless.... considering the fact that their mouths can't even close. As long as what you have in the tank with it cannot fit in its mouth, then you are golden. I have one the size of a softball in my 125 with an arowana and frontosa mating pair. very harmless and fun to look at lol

I bought these parrots the other day. They have been raised in a 40 gal.
I'm not sure I want to keep them though. I'm not sure I like the big fish scene. Any one know what they are worth?
There is 5 of them and the smallest is 7"
They are very mellow and a beautiful orange color

To the right person, they're worth a fair amount. Finding that person is the hard part. Personally, I have never cared for them. I think Wally World asks for 15 bucks for 2 to 3 inchers, if that helps.

I have two blood parrot cichlids and they are very docile with the gouramis and the rainbow shark that reside with them. They are also fine with each other. I just love 'em.  :inlove:

I sold my Parrots the other day. I got 15 dollars each for them. We were both happy with the deal.

They were beautiful and worth the price. I hope their new owner will get lots of enjoyment from them.
