Bronzed Cory Fry and Guppy Fry
« on: July 06, 2009, 02:20:27 PM »
Well I went to the HAAS Auction in Independence, MO on June 27th and wow that was a blast. So many cool fish to choose from and all kinds of plants and equipment available. I could have picked up a few tanks and all the equipment to run it and the fish, substrate, plants and decor to fill them. Just add water
Anyways I am posting because I picked up three breeding pairs of Yellow Snakeskin Guppies, already have a two fry in a breeder net as a result. How cool is it that I get to see them grow so soon.

Also I picked up a schoal of five Bronzed Cories, now I thought they would be two young ot spawn. My 13 year old son called me at work on June 29 or 30 to let me know that there were 100's of eggs? all over the tank. By the time I got home the six guppies and two baby Bristle nose Plecos (picked them up at the auction as well) had cleaned up the tank pretty well.

I placed what was left of the eggs in with the two baby guppies, in the breeder net. On Friday July 3rd I was looking at the eggs thinking they were no good, some were a weird white and some where kind of grey. I was getting ready to clean them out and saw a few wigglers at the bottom of the breeder net. So I placed a japanese moss ball in the breeder net for the cory fry and left the breeder net alone. That was so cool to see and I am so excited about the cory fry.

Keeping my fingers crossed, that I get a few cory fry from the hatching to make it all the way.

Is this spawning season? So many baby fish, in so many tanks right now. I thought spawning season ended in June not that fish care about the calander.

I don't know about your cories, but the guppies are in season at all times, lol. They will be dropping fry monthly and the females are literally always pregnant when the males are with them.

I have discovered since that we can spawn corries by recreating the spawning season at any given time.
My latest challenge is getting the cory eggs to fry that do not succumb to fungi.

That's right. Once u see courtship and a female filled with eggs, do a major w/c and it will trick them into thinking the rainy season has arrived. You should move the eggs into another tank and add mythelene blue to the tank. I'm not sure whether the guppy fry can take the medication.
