DIY Tank Stand
« on: December 29, 2009, 02:20:25 PM »
I'm almost ready to build my aquarum cabinet for my 120 gal tank. My question to you guys and gals is... Do I require to have a sheet of Styrofoam between the bottom of the tank and the top of the cabinet?? Is it just for leveling purposes? My concern is that if water spills, I'm afraid of mold/mildew growing.

Any thoughts would be great!

What kind of tank is it? If its acrylic you really don't need foam, but I have a sheet under my tank anyways, just in case. With glass, you need a sheet, the black trim already has a lot of pressure on it, and imperfections in the stand would just increase the pressure.

Don't worry about mold, my tank has been set up for 2+ years, with no mold in sight.

Thanks for repling, it is a glass tank, and if mold isn't an issue then I'll go ahead with the foam.

Cheers!

The biggest thing in supporting a tank that size is keeping it level. Stress on corners gets ridiculous if it's just a little bit off.
