Topic: Clown Loaches and Snails

Clown loaches also eat snails!! The only snails I feed to my Clown Loaches are pond snails!!! I know that It Is mean, but they love them. (It makes me sad too) But thats the way things go. I do not give them to them on a regular basis, just as a treat once In a while. I try to give them frozen brine shrimp instead. Also a Clown Loach delicacy! I would never think of feeding my Apple snails or giant ramshorns to them!! It just shows you the importance of reasearch. You cant just go throwing species in the same tank willy nilly!!

my GT ate 2 small apple snails, but now he dont ( thanks god)... but i have 4 question...
1: i have 2 snails... one apple and the other i dunno... the other one is brown with some lines.... so do someone know what it is??
2: they just pass the time in their shells like 3-4 days.. is this normal??
3: when they are out the black one is over the apple one... so what is this??
4: sometimes i see both of them with a thing that attached to them that seems to be a transparent sack with white spots in it... what is this and why???

1. Both are most likely apple snails. Apple snails come in a variety of different colours. It's hard to ID without a photo sadly.

2. No it's not normal. It could be caused by to cold temps(you need a heater!)or possibly because they are scared of the fish around them. Snails are normally quite active.

3. Maybe they are mating, or maybe one is just hitching a ride.

4. That's probably their poo poo. White poop indicates you aren't feeding enough. What do you feed them? They need vegetables on a regular basis(every 2 days).

The only loaches I know of that don't eat snails are Khuli's. People say Dojo's too. I know Khuli's CAN'T eat snails because of their jaws, I hear the same thing for Dojo's.

Both these loaches don't really look like your typical loach though, especially Khuli's(cutest loach EVER ).

The way loaches eat snails is evil. I would never feed my loaches them as a treat. Probably because I love my apple snails lol.

Just to clarify this matter, both kuhlis and dojos don't eat snails. The same can be said with hillstream loaches. Only loaches of botiine genus do eat snails.
