Bubbles has some holes in his tail
« on: December 02, 2005, 04:11:41 PM »
HI EVERYBODY(HELLO DR.NICK!)

My betta has some holes in the end of his tail. I didn't notice them yesterday  ???

He is in a planted 5g, recovered from ick about a week ago. No tank mates besides a bunch of plants. What could of caused this? I see no other fin damage.

If it's like pinholes, then it should be a start of fin rot.

Little holes happen a lot.
They happen less with pristine water.
They bump and scrape their tails on things... although it it quite possible that it is finrot. Watch out for the holes... if they are steadily getting bigger, I would remove him and treat him with salt...
If it gets worse, you may have to medicate :)

If you could post a pic, it would be easier to diagnose :) For now, keep the water clean, treat with some salt, and feed nutirent rich foods :)

Good luck!

It doesn't really look like fin rot, they are slightly bigger rippage. I've done quite a few water changes lately to try to get most of the meds I was using for ick out and everything tested fine 2 days ago. The tank is fully cycled. I use sand on the bottom and there's only one small decoration. I'll get a pic as soon as he slows down lol. It's hard to get a good one of this guy he's always on the move unless I open the top. Then he begs for food

Edit :
Forgot to mention I never noticed any small holes forming. I could of just missed it though :S

i have one betta who got those tiney fin pinholes but he is in a divided tank with males on each side of him. I belive is was caused by too much flaring or also known as a "blown fin" the reason I belive this so is because it did in fact develope further and his fin literaly split. it took months but it did happen.
i'm in my own happy little world. dont worry. they know me there.

That's a possibility actually, a female is on either side of him >_> I'll have to put the seperators back up. My camera is out of batteries of course lol. Charging them as we speak. Hopefully there will be enough juice for a picture soon.

Yeah, I can imagine him flaring a lot if there's a female on the other side (as an added question, should males be kept divided with females?)

If it's just over flaring, I would add more decorations to the tank, or consider life plants :)

Can't wait to see pic!

Yes males can be in a divided tank with a female.

The batteries charge slowly so I'll get it when I wake up I guess :P

They actually aren't in the same tank he can just see other tanks because he's in between my other two. Thanks for the help all :)

Update : well the holes seem to have receeded a little and aren't very noticable anymore so I guess they were just a little bit of damage. It looks more like it was torn a bit in one part. I tried to get a picture but forget it lol. He doesn't like to stop moving for that long.

Here's some pics of the big guy. He's still eating like a pig
