tried everything need advice
« on: November 17, 2005, 09:28:47 PM »
Okay awhile ago I posted that one of my boys was really constipated.  I'm not an expert but the epsom baths or the pea neither helped.  Thaqn I was reffered to a guy at the lps and he said it must be parasite.  I've just completed treatment for parasites and absolutely no change.  I put a diff bulb on aquarium and noticed something else. It looks like his stomache is filled with water?? When he's where the light can shine across him it looks like his skin is opaque?? Kinda like a light bulb in his stomache???  What could this be?

Hmmm.... it could just be he's retaining water for some reason or another.  As long as he's eating fine, don't worry about it.  Oh... how warm is his water?

Is he eating? How much have you been feeding him? Is that the only thing that you can see is wrong with him? Does he act like something is wrong with him?

He's active, eating normally if I feed him.  Waters fresh and temp is at 78.  Scales are smooth and his color is good.   He's a little skinny now because I wasn't feeding him when I thouht he was constipated.

Then leave him alone.  If he's acting fine, then don't medicate him.  I'd try switching up his diet and feeding him frozen foods instead of just pellets.  Also keep giving him pea once a week, too.

i rotate between dried blood worms, hikari pellets and frozen brine shrimp.  I'll leave him alone with meds and just feed him no problem I just hate to look at him it looks like he has a marble in his stomache.  He's dark blue.

Epsom salts should help if he is retaining water though.  Regular salt makes a fish retain more water, but epsom salts help to relieve water retention (thus why it is good for dropsy because these fish also retain water).

In all honesty, if you think he's got fluid build up... I'd try the espom salt baths.  Two a day for 15 minutes each time. I would try this for 4 days, if no improvement stop.  No need to stress him out more.  However if you see improvements (even a slight one) then consider continuing treatment.
