OK thanks.  Right now I am gonna continue with the salt and water changes and that's about it.  If Petco ever gets any frozen food in I might try that too.

i like to buy the frozen "gumdrops" they carry a variety pack that has bloodworms etc in it. its fairly cheap and easy to feed.

I agree I like to let them heal naturally IF POSSIBLE. Sometimes it isn't but mostly it is :). A split fin can be a split fin forever as said. Bettas get better really fast so if you don't notice it healing up within another week(about)I'd say the chance is it just won't get better sadly. Not to say the fishy can't live a happy life anyway! Keep on spoiling the little guy hehe.

One great thing for bettas if you haven't tried it is the indian almond leaves. It simulates the water bettas are in while in the wild. It helps them to get nice hard scales and I >THINK< helps speed up damaged fin growth.

Good luck!

I did try them and he got white cottonly stuff all over him a few days later.  I'm sure it's coincidence but the 2 times I've used IAL I have had a sick fish on my hands afterwards so I am not going that route anymore.

He had a split tailfin about a week before this happened and it healed in a few days so I am thinking this might not heal up at all.  I'm glad to hear that it's not the end of the world if it doesn't.  It doesn't seem to bother him at all.

Heh, if you remembered, a vt of mine had a split fin when I got him, and it seemed like it'll never heal, but after a months time, it did.  Before:

I have a betta with a split fin that never healed all the way, and I don't think it ever would. the last like 1/4 of an inch of his tail is split and it has stayed like that for the last couple of months.
