He really was a beauty. I just really hope I NEVER have to euthanize another fish ever again. That was horrible and definitely made me feel horrible. I tried to talk to him to make it a little better, but it was still a really hard thing to do.

It's hard to let them go, but sometimes you just have to. It's a very personal decision as to how long you treat them before you decide that they are not going to make it and you are just prolonging their suffering. I use one of the things Nessa mentioned-- a fish anesthetic called MS222. You can order it on line under the name FinQuel.

I'm sorry about your betta :( It's hard to euthenize any pet you have :(

But I agree that putting your fish in a bag of aquarium water, and placing that in the freezer is the best method. They just get so cold they go to sleep, and die that way.

For all you betta breeders out there. I have just gotten into breeding and I know half the time there are very large spawns and out of them you will only get a few that are worth keeping. I've been trying to find places for them to go but I know I won't be able to find homes for all of them. I also know lots of breeders keep fish like oscars to eat the ones that they don't want. Well that's not really an option for me. I just feel so bad killing them after I've let them live this long. The ones that I don't want should I just put them in the freezer?

I would first recommend posting in the trading section advertising them if you wish for free the person wanting the betta can provide shipping. doyou know how to ship? can you aquire the items? the bags and heating packs? if you can you might want to consider this method i bet it would find most if not all of them happy homes. I sure wouldnt' mind some do you have pics?
i'm in my own happy little world. dont worry. they know me there.

You can't donate them to a fish/petstore? If worse came to worse, and you couldn't find homes for them all, that's what I would do. I couldn't put perfectly healthy fish down...

Well I was figuring when it came time to get rid of them that I could get some bags from Petsmart or somewhere. I really have no clue where to get the heat packs. I don't know any local self owned fish stores around here :( I don't think Petco or Petsmart takes bettas from people.

Thanks Gen, I was planning on making a thread there, so you won't have to worry about it. I will have pictures, so everyone who will get a fish will see what it really looks like before they get it.

Well right now there about a month so it will still be a minute before I figure out how the look and what they are. I do plan on breeding that DT that I am getting in, so ;) Do you know where I can find some cheap heat packs?
