More betta problems...dead looking tip of tail
« on: September 11, 2005, 07:44:49 AM »
well i've gone over every disease that i can find on the internet... and i swear my betta has a combination of everything  >_<!!!!

he acts like he's constipated half the time... and half external parasites...

and NOW on the tip of his tail... there seems to be a brown with black spots part... right on the tip...

ugh... this fish is going to give me an ulcer...

half the time he's swimming fine... flipping out, spazzing.. jerking quickly... then scratching himself on the rocks on the bottom...

the next half he just lays there under his tree... or on the rocks.. and just lays there...

i haven't fed him in 2 days (not that he'd eat if i did feed him anyways)... so i'm gonna try feeding him some pea

his belly is a tad bloated... but his scales are still flat and smooth (so more reason to believe he's constipated)

I cleaned his tank 4 days ago and am cleaning his tank again today... I added aquarium salt the last time i did a change and that seemed to help for a little while.. but now hes back to scratching...

any idea's?...i'm so stressed out over this...

he's in a 1 and a half gallon tank... and i always give a full tank clean.. makeing s ure to wash the rocks and the tank thoroughly....

he's very slightly loosing his color... and i think i am too XD.. from the stress..

any help would be much appreciated...

One of my bettas is going through similar issues - except the frantic swiming. . . .

1.  100% water changes everyday  (4days for 1.5 gal isn't enough)
2.  If he's got external parasites - does he show any symptoms of them?  If so, treat them w/ the right meds.
3.  As for the constipation part - try feeding him a pea.
4.  The Brown/black spot might be fin rot - but that should clear up with the water changes.

Keep your emotions in good spirits - I think it's will help you treat the betta better.

That's my suggestions on the issue.

Hope things work out for you.

On the external parasites... what about velvet?  He would have a shiny look...  kind of sparkly.. looks like gold dust on him if you shine a flashlight on him.  The spastic movement and scratching on the rocks makes me think of that.  I had a betta with that, and was able to  cure it easily with one of the parasite treatments, and he is doing just fine. (That was Miroku... we have had him over a year, now, and the velvet was shortly after we got him).   Good luck with all the other problems!

You have any CopperSafe?  try adding that to the water -- if it is a parasite, or ich or velvet, it'll kill it.  Then I'd give an antibiotic to prevent secondary infections, and in case there is an internal infection.  Flashing, and darting is a sign of a bacterial infection, but of course, not always.

Try starving him for a couple days and see if he'll take the pea on the 3rd. .

Keep looking at him everyday and see if he gets worse or better.
