Thanks Butterfly...you are right.  I got rid of the ammonia but am dealing with the nasty results of the problem that I had.  I don't have gravel, just one silk plant which I rinse with super hot water at each water change.  I think the focus now is getting rid of the rot which I hope JFE works well.  He looks worse today than he did even this morning.  I know I just did the first dose so it's too early to tell but I am getting skeptical if this will work or not.

The JFE says one dose, then another dose four days later...how should I do water changes during those four days?  Any ideas?  I don't want him to sit in there without changes but I don't want to wash all the meds out.  What do you think I should do?

Karma...the ammonia won't keep hurting him cause I now use Amquel which gets rid of ammonia and other junk in the water.  I don't think I can swing bottled water cause if I do it for him I would do it for all four and that can be pricey....50 cents a gallon up the street.  I would need a total of 7 gallons every few days.  Amquel works fine.  I also treat all the water and let it sit now for a day or two between changes.

Thanks,
Angela

Karma, Aquamel is a special water conditioner that rids the water of ammonia, so that's not a problem anymore.

Angie, your guy should be ok without a change for 4 days. If he's in a 2 gallon (if I can remember correctly) then you should only be changing his water every 3-4 days anyway. The meds won't work unless you leave them for 4 days or so anyway.

Let's hope this helps! :)

let's hope so!  He is in a 2.5 so he should be okay then!  Cool! I was changing it to keep water even cleaner cause of the rot but the meds are more important right now!
The bottom of his fin under his belly is having great regrowth!  Crazy how one area can be great and one be so awful!

I'll keep you guys posted!

I had a betta which kept getting fin rot.  We'd treat him with some anti bacterial meds and that would help, but as soon as we stopped it would come back, and we'd do it over again.  Finally we tried putting him in a tank with a little bit of salt and that worked wonders.  I dunno if that would help you, but it's a suggestion.

Kanato, Thanks for the tip!  I do add salt at each water change in all my fish tanks.  I am hoping this JFE works!  Poor guy looks so pathetic!

He is now swimming in circles and biting his tail!!! UGH!  Does the fin rot or JFE upset them?  or is he just a nut on top of all this????   His tail is just about gone!  He keeps swimming in tight circles and jumps at his own tail!!!

thanks.   He is worse again today but I am hoping after this whole round of JFE I see no more damage happening!

I have two stumpy fish now!  Eggplant has been stumpy forever and now Buster is joining him!  UGH!  My two blue fish have been all the trouble.  My red and pink guys are perfect and doing fine.  Go figure!
