Something is wrong with Buster!
« on: August 23, 2005, 06:41:27 PM »
Okay I get home tonight and start working on my computer.  I look next to where Buster is and he is sort of laying on the floor of the tank...WEIRD...he never stops moving.  Then I see him bend into half.  He keeps bending and arching himself.  His tail is destroyed...he was biting it and wouldn't stop until I tapped the tank.  He is low facing down on the bottom of the tank with his body arched.  He is swimming but looks not as smooth.  HIs tail looks yellow where he bit it.  I am including some pics taken just now but I don't know if he is going to make it through the night.  Looks awful!  Please give me advice if you have any...my son will freak if Buster dies.  He just looks bizarre, in color, tail, swimming, and doing this bend.

UGH!
Angela

another pic.

I am watching him now and he is down the bottom bending like he is curling up.  When he swims forward it looks like his little side fins are going fast but he isn't moving as easy as usual...he usually glides so smoothly but it's rough right now.

You know... that kind of looks like ammonia burns and fin rot... have you tested your water?

And yes, his tail does look pretty awful.  I'd give him some salt in his tank and get some IAL/blackwater extract for him.  I'm really hoping that doesn't get worse... I'd almost want to take him out and cut off the nasty part.

I'll get an amonia testing kit tomorrow.  I just changed his water yesterday and gave him his second dose of JFE for the rot.  I have no clue what the heck I am doing wrong!  It's sooo frustrating.  He looks really bad.  I don't even know how to cut the tail...I am afraid I would kill him.

Should I take him out and put him into 100% new water with salt and conditioner???

You know what's crazy is that Eggplant now has white lines down both of his cheeks....I don't know where this discoloration is coming from...could it be stress from the rot?  He is happy enough, blowing a nest, etc.  Now Buster is my trouble guy.

What would you do for him if he was yours?  Should I put him into a new bowl with fresh water???

I'm not sure why he's bending, but the first picture looks like what happened to my betta 2 weeks ago because I forgot to condition the water.
I would also try stress coat...it worked for mine.

Good luck...

indian almond leaves / black water extract really worked for my betta last time. He suffered for fin rot for bout two days before i put indian almond leaves inside his tank. his tail grew back within just 3 days..

do petstores usually sell this or do I buy it online?  I will try anything at this point.  I am thinking of taking him out the JFE water early and just starting 100% over to make sure it's okay.  Should I take him out of the JFE?

I will get an amnio test today.  I know I used the conditioner.  Should I use stress coat on top of using conditioner or does it replace the conditioner?

He is the same this morning...keeps swimming to the bottom nose down and bends his body weird.  Tail shredded off more over night so it's thready now.  UGH!

Thanks,
Angela
