I wish i could remember which breeder i read about who used to do the drip system but changed back to regular water changes. i'll be able to find it later after a big search. He used to do the drip  system till he found out from (i can't rem, ember where!) that not all the contaminates were being removed wiht the water drip system changes; some would remain in the water and could cause problems for the bettas (illnesses; finrot etc) he used to do the drip system for years and years and year (eh you get the idea) once i find this page i'll repost somewhere bout it.
i'm in my own happy little world. dont worry. they know me there.

Hmmmm.... the sitting them in a big thing of water might work if you had a big enought container and it was kept good and warm. Is there any specific place in the apartment that's warmer then the rest? Say like a bedroom or something that you can keep heated a little more then the temp in all the other rooms?

home depot has 17g under bed storage containers.  They're only 6 inches high, but quite long, I was thinking of using them as the larger container.  if i used the spare bedroom as my fish room (which is looking more and more likley by the day) then i could try to keep it a bit warmer, but probly not by much.

another thought to run by everyone here.  Was lying in bed last night trying to figure out solutions to this that aren't going to cost me tons right off the bat, but that I can still fit in my apt.

Those underbed storage containers are 6 inches deep, and about 22inches wide by 40+ long.  I could divide them up, with plastic canvas and lots of silicone, to create seperate areas for each fish, with a sepereate area for a heater, and possibly two small filters (one on each end).  I've not decided on a size for each fish area, I'm probly going to go ahead and buy one and try dividing it and see what happens.  But this would allow me to heat them all, with some small level of filtration.  I'd still do major (100%?) water changes on a regular basis (every 3 days or so), but I can cycle the filters in my larger tanks as needed.  I'm seriously considering some of these to use as teh spawning tanks as well.
