Eclipse 6 flow rate too strong for betta?
« on: June 03, 2005, 10:18:34 PM »
I just finished setting up my new Eclipse 6.  It seems like my betta is constantly fighting the current.  If he stops swimming he'll start drifting to the intake tube.  Is 75 gph too strong?

If it looks like it's too much, then it most likely is.. I'd change it or turn it off :)

I turned it off because there is no flow rate adjuster.

Good, hope it works out, I think if it was left on, it would have stressed the fish out, or worse. :)

You could maybe look into buying a different filter for the tank - A lot of people recommend the palm filter. I have looked at it online and hope to buy it for my little boy betta this fall.

It is good to turn it off - 75gph sounds awfully strong! Good luck on your tank though!

Yeah, definitely find yourself a filter with adjustable flow.  I have one of the Whisper filters and I love it.  My girls float around sometimes, but they can swim around with it fine.

I think I will wrap filter media around the intake to slow it down instead of buying another filter.  Hope it works.  There's a bit of cloudiness in the water. I probably didn't rinse the gravel good enough.

Well there ya go... Think about getting a live plant for your guy.  He'd probably like it.

I plan on getting live plants, a dark background, and maybe a driftwood to complete the setup.

by setting up the tank, is the tank cycled?  an eclipse 6 should defnintely be cycled...water cloudiness could be bacteria blooms, but not likely since you just set up the tank.  The gravel sounds like the culprit.  Is there filter floss in the filter to help trap those loose particles?
