Weird sleeping position??
« on: May 28, 2005, 09:32:34 PM »
So I cleaned all my boys' tanks today and I come in my room to go to sleep and Bo is floating on his side on the top of the tank!  I start freaking out, tap the tank and he rights himself and looks at me like I'm nuts!

I can't get him to stop it either.  I'm thinking it could be the bubbles in the new water mixed with his funky swim bladder that's making him sleep like that.  He usually rests close to the top sitting on the leaf of his plant, but the water level is higher now so he can't.

Does anyone else have this weird fish sleeping problem??

i've had many bettas sleep on their sides or leaning on a plant. or just lean if there isn'ta plant lol. scared the bejezus out of me more then a few times for sure. one even liked to tuck himself up between the filter and the tank for his sleeping place.
i'm in my own happy little world. dont worry. they know me there.

both my boys sleep on their sides. Camine however freaked me out earlier this am only had him a few weeks now but he was sleeping and his eyes were I guess semi closed but you could still see his pupils. Maurice the one in my avaitor sp also sleeps on his side lately been catching him sleeping by his sign that reads No fishing :)

Its completely normal. :) All of my bettas have different sleeping positions, leaning on a plant, leaning on nothing, sleeping on 1 particular pebble, leaning on top of the filter. If I got $1 for ever time my bettas slep in weird positions, I'd be very rich right about now! ;D

Yeah, he does sleep in interesting positions... but I think his swim bladder is damaged either from shipping from bcbetta.com or from the cleaning yeaterday.  Hopefully a good fast and some time will fix it...

I just hate seeing him float there like right now.  I have to keep tapping him to see if he's alive... haha.

I can testifiy that almost all of my bettas, male and female, sleep on their sides from time to time. I also notice a lot of resting on their plants, either in the leaves or leaning against them. Once you get over the fact that you don't need to have a heart attack ever time you see them liek this because they look dead, it's actually quite cute.

I mean, how cool would it be to have a big 'ole leaf or flower for a bed?

:)
