Betta Company & Food
« on: April 24, 2005, 10:16:25 AM »
I was wondering what are good tankmates for bettas?I'm thinking of getting a white cloud minnow & a danios,is that okay? And if it is,does that mean I have to change the food from betta to tropical fish,or will they adapt to the betta food?My betta,Taz didn't like the mini bites (round balls),so I had to change his food to betta flakes & shrimps (he loves shrimps!),so I don't want to keep changing his food.Thanks.

for a male betta i would strongly suggest against getting him a companion, they don't tak kindly to other fish and well on there own :)

how large a tank are we talking?  there are some fish that generally make suitable tank mates, but each betta has their own personality.  some may be too aggressive to have a tank mate of any kind, while others do just fine

Aren't white cloud minnows quite small?  Remember, often anything that can fit into a betta's mouth will end up in a betta's mouth (and it won't come out)!  My guy enjoys having tank mates, but he's never been alone in a tank (raised with his brothers at the breeder, and then lived in a community tank at the store).

If you do decide to add tank mates, make sure your tank is big enough, and make sure you have a contingency plan in case your betta is too aggressive.
