thanks a lot for your reply. I will go with 6 to start with. I just did not know zebra danio got that big. I have one that is really getting big. Ot's not huge but certainly bigger than i thought they would get. I never saw a zebra that big at the pet store. I have to keep in mind that they sell fish fry

My clouds swim on the bottom middle and top of the tank, I know there supposed to stay on top but they are some rule benders lol :)

I don't know if I'd be able to find Badis in Tzaneen but I will try.

I've also been thinking about Kribs, and small tetras(smaller as Silver Dollars ) but I know so many fish I can't make up my mind.

I am selling some of my larger goldfish and I have some cash but I can't decide on fish.

Scarlet "Badis" (Dario dario)) will be a good addition as they are small and occupy the lower portion of the aquarium unlike the white cloud.

I don't now what I want guppys, platys,swords,barbs,danios.

The tank is a 18gal.

Temp, no heater but around 20C but a 50watt heater will be put in.

PH 6.5

General hardness is 6

Filtration, cascade 100 (rated for a 75L tank) and a other small HOB filter.

Lighting, 18watt warm white.

There are snails in the tank but  not allot.
And 8 white clouds.

I want to keep the temp low to keep the snails in check.

I don't now what fish to get and the tank looks empty with just 8 clouds.

I just want some other ideas even if its a hard fish to keep I can do it.

Thanks.

Nicolaas.

Welcome back. What is the exact size of your small tank? If it's something like a standard US 10G tank then I actually can see starting out with 6 of them.

Hi,

Just got back into the hobby to keep my favorite fish zebra danios. Had to take down my 75 gallons because it was set up near a window and got algea problems. Now i set up a small tank and got 3 zebra danios for about 3 weeks now.

I just wanted to know the minimum fish they need for their school. I am thinking at least 3 like i have. Once i get my own place i will set up my 75 gallon again or buy something bigger and get a bigger school of zebra danios. The original. I don't real like the other variations

Give them time and a fixed routine - that includes weekly water changes and daily feeding time. Fishes do better if they are assured by routines. Sudden changes are stressful. Don't worry about the cats, as long as they cannot mess up the aquarium water the fishes will get used to them and also come to know their habits. You see, the fishes observe everything that goes on within the range of their sight. They will know all the usual visitors and their habits, and get used to their ramblings in and around their visible area and none of that will stress them. The first lot have the hardest time - when you make additions to aquarium the new-comers will take the hint from the older inhabitants and settle down even quicker.

Best of luck with your new lot. Widow tetras are quite hardy and active fishes.

Thanks!
They seem to be doing okay. I'm a little concerned about one of them though, it hasn't colored up like the other ones and it's fins and tail area are clear/white. The other three are dark and look happy. I'm going to do another water change tonight, maybe it's more sensitive to water levels.
Are the males or females lighter in color? The only thing I can think of that's causing them stress is my cats. They like to sit right outside the tank and "attack" when they swim by. I was hoping the fish would get used to it (the guppies never seemed to notice) but they dart away every time. There are lots of plants and a cave and a castle but they don't seem to use much of the cover very often.
Any suggestions?

Coloring up is a good indicator that they are not too stressed. I've always liked black skirts.
