As a newbie I bought 5 neons to start off my 20 gallon tank, it was uncycled and very new. The neons I have appear to be incredibly tough, surviving my ignorance

They survived the cycle. In the second week of having them one of them started twirling around at the waterline and I thought for sure he was a goner, but no. 6 months later they are all still alive and well.. I realize that this must be the exception to the rule rather than the rule, because lots of other people seem to have bad luck with them.. I don't know why mine are seeming to be tougher than others but I do know that neons in general are sensitive fish.
