Photographs, Stories and Movies
Jeff's Betta Spawning Movie - An .avi created by Petfish.net member Jeff - fascinating to watch if you've never seen bettas wrap before (and even if you have!).  Give it a few minutes to load.

BettaTalk BettaCam - Faith, the owner of www.bettatalk.com, has set up a web cam in her fish room so that you can view various things going on in there (betta spawns, nest-tending, fry growouts, etc).  Check back often, she changes the focus of the BettaCam regularly.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to view the current BettaCam footage.

Interesting Betta Websites

Life of Betta Splendens - This site has a lot of very good pictures and information.  Thanks to Amanda-Raven for posting about this.

Wayne's This and That. Wayne is a strange guy...in a good way Wink  Tons and tons of interesting betta information and experiments that most of us would never even think about doing.  Some really great stuff to browse through if you have a curious nature.

More to come!  If you have something you'd like to share, contact Aquabelle.

Betta Basics

Petfish.net Betta quick facts.

International Betta Congress.  Looking for information on bettas, "fancy" bettas, or other species besides B. Splendens?  This is the place to go.  If you are looking to join a local betta club, check out the "Chapters" link to see if there is one in your area.  The "Members Webs" link will lead you to IBC registered betta breeders if you are looking for that special couple to start your own "show" lines.

Betta home considerations.  What's the best home for your betta?  How often should you change your betta's water?  Check this out and see if it doesn't give you some ideas.

Amber D's guide to keeping multiple female Bettas in the same tank.  Beautiful photos illustrate this article, a must-read if you are thinking about having a female Betta tank.

Forum Posts about keeping female bettas together.  Various Petfish.net people discuss successes and failures keeping female bettas together in a sorority.  Includes tips to make your attempt more successful and things you should avoid doing.  This thread may be a little jumbled as I'm merging different posts on the same topic together, be forgiving Smiley

Do-It-Yourself plastic canvas tank dividers.  A cheap and easy way to divide up those tanks so that your bettas can have luxury condos, and you can cut back on the water changes.

Betta Disease

Mushi's betta disease page with lots of pictures donated by Petfish.net regulars.  This is a work in progress, if you have any good photos or disease information that you'd like to share, please feel free to send Mushi a private message or e-mail about it (she loves this stuff!).

Betta Talk betta disease page.  Good diagnostic page with several photos what diseased bettas look like (helps with diagnosing yours).

Betta M.D.  Excellent chart listing symptoms and possible causes as well as treatment options.

BettasRUs betta disease diagnosis.  The thing that sticks out about this site is that there is an interactive program which helps you diagnose your betta's illness simply by answering "yes" or "no" to questions asked.  You can also look up illnesses by name, as well as learning how to prevent illnesses.

Betta Genetics

The Betta Bubble color and tail type guide.  Some really fantastic photography on this page, and it compliments Aquabelle's article very well.  At the bottom is a little mini-chart on tail type dominance.

Deep Blue Bettas Genetics Predictor. Put in the information you know about your male and female betta, and this predictor will help you figure out what the fry should look like.  Remember, this is less accurate with pet store bettas since you cannot be positive of their lineage.  Thanks to Crimsonrain for posting this link.

Betta Territory Genetics.  A wonderfully illustrated site that includes pundit squares for many of the common betta colors.  Great explanations of the "layers" of betta color.  Genetic terminology - if the stuff on that page just confused the heck out of you.

Jim Sonnier's guide to betta genetics is 7 pages worth of genetics goodness.  Enjoy!

Betty Splendens Links to betta genetics articles of interest.  Some great stuff in here for you mad betta scientists!

Betta Breeding

BettasRUs Betta breeding information.  If you're thinking about spawning a pair of bettas, this is a good place to start your research.

Betta Talk Betta breeding information.  Another excellent source of spawning information, with some beautiful photos of spawning behavior.

Classic Bettas breeding page.  Image-heavy page with some really incredible shots of spawning tank setup, the spawning process and photos of fry in the nest.  Also has a little blurb at the bottom about photographing bettas.

Betty Splendens Links to several different methods of betta spawning.  Excellently detailed articles.

Betta Fry Rearing

Betta Talk fry rearing information.  Well-organized information on what it takes to rear betta fry.

BC Betta fry rearing information.  Marianne from B.C. Betta explains how she raises her lovely bettas.

The Betta Bubble fry rearing information.  A look into how another breeder raises fry successfully.

Jim Sonnier explains how to raise betta fry, including how to cull and how large fry should be at certain ages.

More to come!  If you have something you'd like to share, contact Aquabelle.

I was looking for info on betta imbellis today on the web, and I found some pictures of other species of bettas.  They look really different from betta splendens because they don't have the long flowing fins.  I realize that the picture quality is terrible, but I think they get the point across. Just thought I'd share these, so you can see what your precious fishes' cousins look like.

*BUMP*

Some more things to add...

If you are new to the boards and are having difficulties posting here, please do not hesitate to contact any of the moderators or administrators.  We are here to help you and will proudly do so! Grin

To make a new post, click on the "new topic" button. The "new poll" button is for polls only Smiley

If you have anything new to add to your post right after you posted it, there is the "modify" button above your post.  Modifying posts will avoid multiple posts by the same person one after another.

If you have a question to ask, please feel free, but keep it to one post.  By posting the same question all over the place, this tends to confuse many people and you will get many mixed resposes, so therefore, keeping that one question in one post makes it easier for you and everyone else Smiley

If you wish to catch up on unread posts, there is the "recent posts" link on top on the page (next to petfish trader and articles)...however, if you want to view the newest posts in a particular thread, use the "new" button that is situated right next to the post.  This will take you to the first unread post in that tread.  When you are finished reading the posts that you want, you can then click the "mark as read" button at the top of the betta index to mark all unread posts as read.

If you need instructions on resizing pictures, there is a stickied post on the betta pics section that is helpful Smiley

Hope I didn't confuse you all too much...LOL!  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of us!

Thanks!

Hi  Cheesy

Please make sure that you post pics in the right section Smiley  There are 2 sections to the betta board, one is the general betta section for betta related questions, and the other board, which is called betta pics is more suited to showing off those wonderful betta pics you all have.  Also, please do not be afraid to post in the other section on petfish.net! Grin

Please keep unrelated posts to topics in PMs and general betta chat in the
"general betta chat" section.  this will make sure that no important replies will be "buried".  Thank you!

Please take note that we now have a betta archives section that is very information rich...if you are wanting to know about something, please take a look at the betta archives, articles, existing posts and sticky posts before posting a repeated question...there is also a "search" function right here on petfish that will help you find anything that you need.  Thanks!
