Got the digital point.

Knew I was right on the batteries, I once jump started a 24 volt truck with two 12 volt cars so we could finish a detail and still have part of our Saturday, lol. Makes sense now, thanks for the explanation!

No problem! Glad it helped! :D

So, I fixed the wiring today, and I think that I may have greatly overestimated how much light I need on this little tank.

The first picture is of the correct wiring. A bit simpler over all.

The second is the tank with the 15W fluorescent top from a 10 gallon.

The third is taken with the exact same camera settings, but is of three LEDs shining into the tank. You can see that they are a lot brighter than the fluorescent! And this is without any kind of reflector, so I am actually losing a significant amount of light off to the sides! I think that part of the reason that I overestimated by so much is that the fluorescent bulb is old, over three years old I think. Anyway, it is okay, because I can always dim them, and if I want I can take off two of the six later. But it is kind of surprising!

I'll keep you up to date as I keep going! This is getting exciting now!

So, I played around with the LEDs and my Arduino a little bit today. Here is a little video of them "breathing." ;D

Well, I've hit a little bit of a financial snag, so this is on hold for a few weeks. Hopefully it gets cleared up before too long.

Okay, so I just got some really cool stuff. I'll post pictures in the next couple of days, but I just had to let you all know. :D

Okay, so here are some pictures! This is some aluminum extrusion that I found laying around at work a while ago. We weren't using it, so I asked my boss about it, and he said I could have it! It should make this lighting project look a lot more professional!

And I can use it as a heat sink, which means that I won't have to use my little black ones!

That extrusion looks very appropriate. All it needs is a good white paint on the reflective side. It can be adapted for florescent lights too.
