10 gallon set-up!
« on: June 14, 2012, 03:16:08 PM »
I just set up my 10 gallon! I did a little thought about it and I came to a conclusion to set it up.

-Male black orchid CT betta

-Six black neon tetras

They seem to get along fine. My betta chases them when they invade his privacy, but no aggressive behavior between the fish. It's my cycled filter that I used so it's 100% fish-safe and 86% cool! I'll try to get some pics in, I know you guys love them :hihi: Here's to hoping the tetras go great! GG-out  :bunny:

Your betta may be huge compared to a black neon tetra but it will be this pack of tetras which will keep the betta from feeling safe.
If I had to live my life again, what would I avoid?

They seem to keep to themselves, if I had known they would make him feel insecure I wouldn't have gotten them. The betta's real problem is bloating. I had set peiods for which he won't eat but his tummy seems a bit too round and I regularly feed him 2-3 times a day skipping a couple of days every week or so...he might be constipated?I'm also having temperature fluctuations...BAD DAY :slamhead:

I've found a good way to keep the temperature stable and my betta's swelled tummy is smoothing out. GOOD DAY  I'm still trying to upload pics but I can't find where the USB connects to the camera! :13:

Keep an eye for ammonia spikes.  If you took the filter out of the betta only tank then it only has enough bacteria to support a betta only bioload, and adding 6 tetras could cause an ammonia spike and mini cycle.

Update: Betta actually did end up killing three tetras, so after I moved him I got three more, getting me at six. Then three died from something(unknown) leaving me with three. Recently I was having problems and lost a tetra(who was literally flipping out) and decided to take care of the last two. I completely redid the tank, washed everything, 100% water change, blah blah blah. Not quite sure what to do with it yet...and STILL no pictures! I'm not figuring out the whole camera thing :hihi:
