Hi All,
Since deciding to start a FOWLR I've had to purchase a fair amount of new and additional equipment and supplies. As a result I discovered two new (to me at least) websites.
The first of these is Aquacave (
www.aquacave.com). I purchased my skimmer, koralia pumps, heater, and power compact light bulbs from these guys. The experience was extremely positive. The website has a fairly large selection of aquarium equipment and supplies - mostly concentrating on saltwater. I ordered on Cyber-Monday; got a courtesy call on Tuesday to inform me that an item I had ordered (Coralife Aqualight mounting legs) was out (the person leaving the message told me that they had been unable to get any from Coralife for a couple of months and were withdrawing that item). Items shipped on Wednesday and they arrived the following Tuesday. The packing was excellent. I was a bit worried about shipping a large acrylic box (the skimmer) but everything arrived in perfect condition. Shipping for non-heavy items is a flat rate of $5. I recommend them.
The other place I ordered from recently was Bulk Reef Supply (
www.bulkreefsupply.com). Order comprised of a new RO membrane (75 gpd); new prefilter and carbon RO cartridges, a refillable DI cartridge along with new DI media, a pressure gauge, a flush kit, and in/out dual TDS meter. The RO parts selection is excellent. The product range they carry overlaps with aquacave.com to quite a high degree. The RO parts I ordered were quite a bit cheaper at bulk reef supply; for other products the prices are comparable. The one thing that's great about these guys is that they have a number of educational videos on youtube - mostly product promotions but there some that are genuinely useful. I found the ones about their 5 stage RO filter, "Installing a flush kit", installing a TDS meter, and filling the DI cartridge invaluable. Unlike aquacave, shipping is not a flat rate. For my order, the items were shipped out the following day and the arrived 3 days after that - even with a huge snowstorm in the Sierra Nevada. Again - highly recommended.
