Topic: what size of tank i need?

hi...I'm new to this hobby and looking at sereval pictures i was able to know the kind of goldfish i've (for the moment i dont have a camera to post picture) but i think i identified them right.

I've a Common goldfish, a Shubunkin and the other 3 (the ones i'm more confused of what they are) i think they are fantails.

sadly at the store they sold me that 5 goldfish on a 10 gallon tank....now i know i'm realllyyyyy overpopulated even with good filter but i'm working hard till i can get another tank.

Nowww the question is.. how big do i need the tank to be for the goldfish only?

Actually, it's not a good idea to keep common goldfish with fancy goldfish. They swim differently and the commons might hog the food before the others get enough.

Normally, common goldfish need 20gal each. The fancies, 10gal each. So really, you need at least a 20 for the common and at least a 40 for the others.

well I've noticed that the common and the Shubunkin are more fast at eating that the others but they all seems to get enough food each. Also I've notice that they (common and Shubunkin) sometimes chase one another or the others while eating, Is it normal?

but for the original question so i need like a 60 gallon tank minimun? just for goldfish?

The chasing while eating is a sign that they need to be in different tanks. You don't a 60gal, you need 2 tanks. A 20 for the common, and a 40 for the fancies.

well then i may have to think about giving away some of the goldfish, i cant have two tanks.

can they harm each other in the mean time? i'm checking that all fish eat that they dont always chase each other

another thing that i notice about them is that they suck the rocks after eating all the floating food...i think that they are looking for food, am i right?

Even though we can't see it, there is usually microscopic algae in a tank... it is just when things get out of balance that we see the algae.  The fish are doing the right thing .... you'll see them do that (mouthing the rocks) frequently.

Who knows?  It may be a boredom thing, also... like chewing on your fingernails!

Giving the fish away, or back to the store is a good idea if you can't house them properly.

i'm thinking about giving the fish to a friend but for now i will hold on ....now back to the subject of this topic

let say that i keep the 5 goldfish and buy a 60 gallon thank? can i have more fish on that tank aside from goldfish?

No, don't add more fish!  The commons need to be kept separate from the fancies. You need two tanks for those 5 goldfish.
