Wascally Wabbit!
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:36:37 PM »
So, two days ago we acquired a year-old female rabbit from some friends who felt that they couldn't give her the attention she needed anymore. She's a gorgeous long-haired grey and white breed (there's a pic on my facebook for those of you who have me) and lives with my dad at his apartment. We've kept her on the same brand of pellets as her original owners have, and she has unlimited access to alfalfa hay. They were originally giving her those yogurt treats, but we're going to start weaning her off them in favor of less fatty, sugary treats, like raisins and fresh fruits. I'm also planning on slowly making the switch to timothy hay, as I've read that that's a more high-quality option for rabbits. She gets playtime in the apartment after my dad gets home from work, and has plenty of toys and chewables. Does this look good so far? We're gonna give this little bun bun the best life we can. :)

Aww, can't wait to see pics!  What kind of bedding are you using?

My son's class has a bunny and we kept him over winter break.  Our basement has been refinished after a flood last year, so there's nothing down there except some exercise equipment.  He would run around there for hours!  They're so much fun, but geesh, such poop machines!  Having him gave me a new appreciation for them, though.  Very sweet little creatures!  Congrats on the new family member, spud!  (p.s.  I  know you're on my FB, but I can't remember your actual name.)

Hahah, if you want to add me, it's Corey Feger. And the hutch has a wire flooring, but there's a large square of old carpet that covers a good portion of it. The carpet stops before the potty (she was already toilet trained! Hallelujah!) and her food dish. We're experimenting with fresh foods. We found out tonight that she loves raisins, so out go the yogurt chips! My dad gave her some leaf lettuce (not iceberg) and it gave her some diarrhea. So we're going to keep trying. :) She's such a sweetheart. I was cuddling with her on my bed when she decided she'd rearrange my sheets for me. They apparently like to do that, so we're going to find an old towel for her to play with.

They have a lot more brains and personality than most people realize.

Rabbits are so much fun, buy my 3rd daughter is VERY allergic to them....  she doesn't even want to take her son to a daycare that has rabbits as pets because of the contact there.

Yeah, my little sister Hannah is allergic to cats, so we've been watching to see if the rabbit bothers her too. We aren't sure if it's the neighbors' cat or little Molly. Funny thing is, every cat but the one we own bothers her. Doc says it's because Hannah's been around Anabelle since she was born. Interesting, eh?
