?? BUBBLE NESTS
« on: January 11, 2010, 09:04:20 PM »
How often/ how soon should my betta be making a bubble nest? I have had him for a few weeks now with no sign of a bubble nest. Should he be making one soon, or does it vary widely?

Just depends really. Give him a few frozen blood worms. Not the whole brick just break some off and thaw it out and feed him a few. Do a complete water change. Keep his tank warm. Just make sure all his needs are taken care of and maybe he will build one. You could always get a female betta to put in another tank next to his tank. He may start to show off for her and build a bubble nest. Keep them seperate and if you want to breed them do alot of research.

Some never make a bubble nest unless a female is around.

Adding some plants that the betta can use as anchors helps. Mine likes to use duckweed and, if a Rotala stem pokes through the water, that.

One of my males can't see my female and so far hasn't built any nests.

Charlie, who is right next to Rosie, will build nests for a while then kind of slack off.  When he does that, I've been putting a piece of cardboard up between their tanks for a few days so he can't see Rosie.  When I remove it, not long after, I'll see something like:

Yea, his water is warm, I feed him blood worms every other day, the water quality is perfect, I have live plants in it that touch the surface, and the current is minimum. I guess he needs a female to get his juices flowing haha
