What sort of Snail is....
« on: January 06, 2010, 10:46:39 PM »
I added a "blue snail" to my 2.5 gallon aquarium with only a betta in it. What should I feed this snail and what sort of snail (other names, scientific name) is this?

Could be a mystery snail or a ramshorn. How huge is it and what other markings does it have, shape, etc.
50g angelfish & tetra
20g Amazon biotope(cory)

Without seeing it, I'll guess that you have a "blue mystery snail," which is  a type of apple snail.

The above link has tons of info and pics on apple snails.

The snail also keeps climbing to the top of the tank, up the walls almost to the surface. I've heard this is an indication of bad water quality. Is this true? I try to keep the alkalinity a little higher for him, and the PH is about 7, and my water is perfectly clear. would he be doing this for any other reason?

Apple snails breathe with a basic lung, so they need to be able to breach the surface to breed. They also lay their eggs above the waterline.

Give that link a little look-thru. There's loads of info on that page.

Clear water doesn't mean anything. Many poisons are also clear when dissolved in water. You need to buy test kits for ammonia, NitrIte, and NitrAte at the very minimum. Then post the numbers from those tests here.
